On June 2, 2015, a public letter was delivered to CEO of Fraser Surrey Docks, Jeff Scott at Port Metro Vancouver’s AGM. Paula Williams, co-founder of Communities and Coal spoke during the Question and Answer period on behalf of her group, Voters Taking Action on Climate Change, Dogwood Initiative, and Real Port Hearings. The letter had nearly 3000 signatures from concerned citizens along with endorsement from 58 businesses. Williams said, “This letter is a reminder to all of you that the region stands in disapproval of any coal port at Mr. Scott’s Surrey Facility and that this project, with or without the amendment, is taking us in a direction we are not willing to go”. She urged both the Port and Jeff Scott to take a new path forward.
